Cole looking forward to next challenge after Cesena spell

Ashley Cole says he is looking forward to his next challenge following the conclusion of his brief stint at Serie B side Cesena.

Cole was appointed Cesena head coach in mid-March, signing a deal that ran until the end of the 2025/26 season and which included an option to extend "upon the fulfilment of certain conditions."

But Cole says he "decided that it is best for me to move on" following talks with the club's sporting director Andrea Mancini.

The Cesena job was Cole's first as a manager. He took charge of eight games, winning one, drawing three and losing four.

In a post on Instagram, former Arsenal, Chelsea and England defender Cole said: "As my tenure at Cesena FC concludes today, I want to thank the players and staff for their hard work and commitment over the last few months.

"I was proud to bring my experience to such a passionate club, and Ive truly enjoyed working with the squad to introduce a new identity and prepare for the season ahead.

"Following recent discussions with the sporting director regarding a change in the clubs strategy, I have decided that it is best for me to move on.

"I leave with great respect for the people there and look forward to my next challenge."
