Burnley confirm Hayen as new head coach

Burnley have confirmed the appointment of Nicky Hayen as the Club's new Head Coach on a three-year contract.

Hayen joins from Belgian Pro League side KRC Genk, where he held the top position since 2024. During his time at the club, he won the Belgian Cup, Belgian Super Cup and was named Belgian Coach of the Year 2024.

Speaking after his appointment, Hayen said: I'm pleased to be joining a club with real history and supporters who care deeply about it. I know most of them won't know much about me yet, that's fair and it's on me to change it.

What I can tell them is how my teams play. We keep the ball, we press with purpose, and we trust young players with real minutes, not just a place on the bench.

I'm really looking forward to working with the squad in the US on the pre-season tour. The hard work starts there.

Benitez says 'clever' Alonso knows the Premier League inside out

Former manager Rafael Benitez expects "clever" Xabi Alonso to do well at Chelsea.

Alonso, who won three trophies including the Bundesliga, during his time as Bayer Leverkusen boss, took over as Chelsea head coach last month.

Benitez managed Alonso when the pair were together at Liverpool where they tasted Champions League success in 2005.

I think Xabi is really clever," Benitez told Your Site News reporter Tim Thornton.

"He did really well with Leverkusen - and that was a surprise, because he was coming from Real Sociedad B.

"To do what he did at Leverkusen was fantastic. Then going to Real Madrid - we know from experience that this is quite complicated but at the same time he knows the league, he knows the players.

He knows everything around the Premier League. Hes clever - I think he is a good coach. Chelsea is not easy, but I think he can do well.

Palace sign Lionesses' Goldie on loan

Crystal Palace have announced the loan signing of Teyah Goldie from London City Lionesses.

Charles signs for Man City on three-year deal

Manchester City have signed Niamh Charles from Chelsea on a three-year deal.

The left-back had one year left on her contract with the Blues after winning five WSL titles since joining from Liverpool in 2020.

Charles has now returned to the north west, signing a contract that will keep her with the WSL champions until 2029. She will wear the No 21 shirt at the Joie Stadium.

West Ham sign Villa's Salmon

West Ham have completed a deal for striker Ebony Salmon, after her exit from Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Hammers, who have now made seven signings in the transfer window.

Salmon will wear the No 17 shirt at West Ham.

Im really excited to join West Ham United and begin this next chapter of my career, she said.

After the conversations I had with Rita [Guarino] and others at the Club, it just seemed like the right fit for me.

Im really looking forward to getting started, meeting all of my teammates and the fans, and helping West Ham push on this season.

Keskinen leaves Aberdeen in 1m deal

Odense BK have signed Aberdeen winger Topi Keskinen for a fee of over 1m.

The Finland international joined the Dons from HJK Helsinki for 800,000 two years ago.

Aberdeen knocked back a number of bids for him last month and were not actively looking to sell - but it's understood they see this as a good deal financially for the club.

Wissing takes charge at Al-Ittihad

Jens Wissing has replaced Sergio Conceicao as head coach at Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad.

Blackburn make Penrice enquiry

Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph:

Blackburn Rovers have made an enquiry for AEK Athens left-back James Penrice.

Its understood a number of clubs in England and across Europe are keen on the 27-year-old.

Norwich City have also been monitoring his situation but are unlikely to make a move in this window.

Penrice joined AEK from Hearts for 2m last summer.

Ward becomes Walsall's sixth summer signing

Walsall have signed goalkeeper Jed Ward from fellow League Two side Bristol Rovers.

The 23-year-old joins the Saddlers for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year deal with a club option for a further year and becomes Walsall's sixth signing of the summer.

I cant wait to get started here, Ward said.

I know the size of the club and where it wants to get to and after speaking to people who have been involved at this club in the past it was evident that this is where I want to play my football for the foreseeable.

Ive had a few conversations with the gaffer and it excites me even more, his project and ideas are exactly what will get the best out of me which makes me so eager to get going now.

I think we should be very excited entering this season - ultimately we need to take it game by game and see how far we can get but Im willing to give everything to the club regardless and give the fans a season to remember.
