Chelsea transfers: Alejandro Garnacho up for sale a year after joining from joining from Manchester United

Chelsea are prepared to sell Alejandro Garnacho for 50m euros (£42.6m) this summer, preferring a permanent departure over a loan proposal.

The 22-year-old wants to play regular first-team football, and that is not guaranteed at Chelsea, just a year on from a move to Stamford Bridge from Manchester United for £40m.

In an underwhelming debut season for the Blues, Garnacho failed to establish himself, scoring eight goals and setting up four in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Multiple clubs across Europe, the Premier League and in Saudi Arabia are interested in signing the forward.

Chelsea are working with the player and his representatives to find a solution which suits all parties. Garnacho has not returned to pre-season training yet because his future is set to be resolved in the next fortnight.

Garnacho penned a long-term deal at the west London club after being told he could leave United after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in 2025. Should a club meet Chelsea's 50m euros (£42.6m) demands, the Blues will have made a profit on the Argentine.

New Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso says he wants to build on the "strong culture" at Stamford Bridge, where players "give everything for the benefit of the team".

The Spaniard started work as Blues head coach on Thursday.

"For me, in football, there are principles that are unnegotiable," he said in an in-house interview.

"You need to be willing to pay the price to compete at the highest level. You can't hold back anything. You need to give everything you have for the benefit of the team. The team is always the most important thing.

"We need to create that culture, which is a process - and the process is on a daily basis here in Cobham, training every day to prepare for when we have to perform in front of our fans.

"I think there is a strong culture already built; there's an important core of the team and those players that they have established throughout the years need to help the young ones to feel that.

"That's with their professionalism, with their work ethic, with knowing the team is the most important thing. Daily, we will be able to have that perception and create that culture.

"That culture we are able to build here will, 100 per cent, be transmitted onto Stamford Bridge."
