York Knights 20-16 Hull FC: Mark Applegarth's side bounce back for third straight Super League victory

York staged a second-half comeback as they secured a third straight Betfred Super League win with a 20-16 victory over Hull.

The win moves the Knights up to ninth in Super League, with the Black and Whites dropping to 11th.

York took the lead in the ninth minute when David Nofoaluma dived over in the corner despite the best efforts of Harvey Barron who tried to knock him into touch.

The Knights put themselves eight points to the good 10 minutes later, Hull failed to deal with a cross-field kick and Jon Bennison took hold of the ball and squeezed over the whitewash.

Hull halved the deficit in the 25th minute courtesy of Aidan Sezer, who ran 40 metres for a wonderful solo try, and they put themselves in front five minutes later when they worked the ball left to right into the grasp of Tom Briscoe who found a gap in the York defence to make it 10-8.

The visitors managed to get another try before the break, Hugo Salabio's great offload was collected by Joe Batchelor who managed to dot down.

The home side got themselves on level terms after the break, Denive Balmforth displayed some good footwork before crossing over to cut the deficit to two points before Bennison slotted a penalty to make it a level game.

York retook the lead with 20 minutes to go, Nikau Williams got himself on the end of a neat grubber kick from Cody Hunter and Williams was denied another by the video referee minutes later.

Hull thought they snatched a result at the end when Herman Ese'ese charged over but the video referee deemed a double movement which was enough to earn York the points.
