Bristol City complete 4m deal for Tolaj

Bristol City have confirmed the signing of Lorent Tolaj from Plymouth for 4m plus add-ons.

The Swiss striker has signed a four-year deal at Ashton Gate and will wear the No 9 shirt.

Tolaj scored 21 goals for Argyle in all competitions in 2025/26.

Robins manager Michael Skubala said: We are really pleased to add Lorents physicality and intensity to our front line.

His progression over the past few seasons is testament to both his talent and work ethic. He will add a different dimension to our squad and we believe he will thrive working with the group. 

Sheff Utd announce Doherty capture

Sheffield United have announced the signing of Matt Doherty on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old has signed a one-year deal at Bramall Lane, with the option to extend for a further 12 months.

Doherty was a free agent after his second spell at Wolves came to an end earlier this summer.

Blades boss Chris Wilder said: "There's no doubting we are getting a player here who knows what it takes to be successful.

"You've got to be a seriously good player to have played as many times as he has for the likes of Wolves, Spurs and Atletico Madrid.

"Matt is a top pro on and off the pitch; he still has a real desire to achieve things in his career, and he wants to do that here.

"He'll drive those standards we are looking for and bring the best out of others in the squad. I've talked about culture carriers a lot over the years, and that's what I see in Matt."

Its understood the Hoops are keen to bring the Egypt international to Glasgow after an impressive display at the World Cup and they are exploring the conditions of a potential deal. 

Hassan, 24, has one-year left on his contract with the Real Oviedo.

ICYMI: Pep holds talks over Italy job

to convince him to take over as national team head coach, according to Sky in Italy. 

Paolo Maldini, the new technical director of the FIGC, and Leonardo, his advisor, travelled to Barcelona to speak with the former Man City boss over the course of three days and explain their project for the Italian national team. 

The FIGC brought in Maldini and Leonardo as part of a huge shake-up in Italian football following their failure to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup.

It remains to be seen if Guardiola wants the job, but the FIGC is making concrete attempts to bring him in as the national boss. 

Other candidates for the role are Roberto Mancini and Andrea Pirlo. 

Italy are looking to find the right successor to Gennaro Gattuso, who left his role after missing out on qualification for this summer's World Cup.

Ipswich have held talks with Celtic over a deal to sign forward Daizen Maeda.

The two clubs discussed conditions over a possible switch, with a formal offer yet to be made.

The 28-year-old wants to move to the Premier League, and Gary ONeils newly promoted side are keen on landing the Japan international.

Celtic boss Martin ONeill had already confirmed during pre-season that the player, who is entering the final year of his deal, could depart.

Maeda moved to Celtic in January 2022 and has won nine major honours in that time.
