Ahead of Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos' 50m move to Manchester United, here's a look at some of his best bits from last season.

Villa set to beat Newcastle to 49m Manzambi signing

Latest from SSN reporter Keith Downie:

Newcastle believe they are set to miss out on the signing of Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi to Aston Villa.

The Switzerland international's preference is understood to be Villa, who have offered to match the 49m deal Newcastle verbally agreed with Freiburg.

The offer of Champions League football is said to have been a key motivator behind Manzambi's decision to opt for Villa.

The 20-year-old had verbally agreed personal terms with Newcastle, but was waiting until after Switzerland's World Cup was over before making a final call on his future.

Switzerland were knocked out by Argentina in a 3-1 quarter-final defeat after extra time on Sunday.

'Villa finalising Manzambi move'

Aston Villa are set to sign Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi, according to reports in the Athletic.

Your Site News reported Newcastle had reached a verbal agreement with Freiburg for a 49m transfer of the player.

However, according to the Athletic, the Switzerland international wants to join Villa, with the club now closing in on a deal for the 20-year-old who impressed in his country's run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Is Man Utd's midfield rebuild going to plan?

Manchester United had plans to rebuild their midfield with top signings this summer and despite falling short in the search for a number of targets, progress is now being made on arrivals.

The plan has always been to bring in two, perhaps even three midfielders, market-permitting, to plug the hole left by Casemiro in an already thin area of the squad, currently ill-equipped to cope with a return to the Champions League.

Fiorentina's Arokodare bid rejected by Wolves

Latest from SSN reporter Dharmesh Sheth:

Wolves have turned down a bid from Fiorentina for striker Tolu Arokodare.

Its understood the Serie A club offered a loan deal, but the fee was not believed to be anywhere near Wolves valuation.

Fiorentina are one of a number of clubs - including Trabzonspor - who are interested in the Nigeria international and tabled official offers.

However, Arokodare has made it clear he will not consider a move to Trabzonspor.

Its thought the players preference is to play in one of Europes top-five Leagues.

Arokodare is contracted at Wolves until 2029, with the club holding an option to extend for a further 12 months.

Senegal sack Thiaw

Senegal have sacked manager Pape Thiaw in the wake of their exit from the World Cup in the last 32.

Thiaw, who had been in charge since December 2024, saw his side lose their opening two Group I games to France and Norway, before a 5-0 victory over Iran secured a equalisation spot as the lowest ranked of the best third-placed teams.

The Teranga Lions had been 2-0 up against Belgium with just five minutes left of the round of 32 match in Seattle, but conceded two late goals before losing 3-2 to a late penalty from Youri Tielemans at the end of extra-time.

The Senegal Football Federation confirmed the decision to remove Thiaw following a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and prospects of the national team.

A statement read: The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) informs the public that following the meeting of the Executive Committee held this Saturday July 11 2026, it was decided to initiate a procedure to terminate the functions of the national coach, Mr Pape Thiaw, as well as his entire technical staff.

This decision comes after the elimination of the Senegal national team in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and prospects of the national team, the Executive Committee deemed it necessary to initiate this procedure in the best interests of Senegalese football.
