World champion Putellas joins London City Lionesses

London City Lionesses have completed the landmark signing of free agent Alexia Putellas following her departure from Barcelona.

Putellas left the Catalonia club in May after a trophy-laden 14 years, spearheading the side she joined as a teenager to unprecedented success domestically and in Europe.

The World Cup champion, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, is widely regarded as one of the best female players in the game. She is tipped as the favourite to add a third Ballon d'Or to her collection at this year's ceremony in October.

Speaking about the move, Putellas said: "I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter with London City Lionesses.

"The club's ambition and its steadfast commitment to growing as a women-only independent club resonate deeply with me.

"I look forward to making an impact on the pitch as we challenge for titles. On the pitch, building on my passion for youth development, I am equally excited to work with Michele [Kang] in elevating women's football in England and on the global stage."

Ex-York goalkeeper Male: I earned EFL chance - it was gutting to have it taken away

Goalkeeper Harrison Male has spoken about the "surprise" of being released by York City after playing a key role in their promotion from the National League to Sky Bet League Two.

The 25-year-old played 46 games as the Minstermen pipped Rochdale to the title and won Golden Glove after keeping 19 clean sheets.

"It was a surprise. I thought I did well. There's not much more I could've done personally and as a team to be given a new contract," he said, speaking at PFA pre-season.

"But everyone's got their own opinions and football is a game of opinions. Onto the next chapter.

"Nothing was ever put over to me. There was just a phone call and that was it.

"I believe I gave everything for the club. When I first got there, they had just got out of relegation towards the back end of the season and the turnaround we had in the squad in those two years, from finishing second and then getting promoted, was pretty incredible, so it did come as a surprise.

"I'd have loved to have been there for many years, but it's football. If someone doesn't feel like you should be there anymore, that's their decision.

"I believe everything happens for a reason. My path is already there. It will happen at the right time.

"It's every lad's dream to play in the EFL and I believe I warranted that opportunity with how well I've done. For that to be taken away from me is pretty gutting, but I know for certain I will reach the EFL. I want to play as high as possible.

"I'm pretty straight-up and if I didn't feel I was ready, I'd probably say, but I started in step 4 and I've worked my way up, so I've got really good experience in the men's game to really push on."

Kamada agrees new Palace deal

Latest from Your Site News' James Savundra:

Daicha Kamada has agreed to stay at Crystal Palace and sign a new one-year deal.

Kamada is understood to enjoy living in London and has enjoyed his two years at Palace. The Japan international has won the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League at Palace.

Glasner has signed Kamada at Eintracht Frankfurt and Palace but the 29-year-old will be playing under new Eagles boss Pierre Sage at Selhurst Park next season.

Arbeloa eyes move for Madrids Garcia

Latest from Your Site News' Lyall Thomas:

Fulhams new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa wants the club to sign Real Madrids Gonzalo Garcia, Your Site News understands.

The former Real youth player is believed to be emerging as a leading target for a new striker - one of their priorities to strengthen this summer after the departure of Raul Jimenez.

Garcia scored six times last season and was more involved after Arbeloa took charge from Xabi Alonso at the Bernabeu. He has 35 LaLiga appearances to his name since making his senior Real debut in 2023.

The 22-year-old is also represented by the same agency as Arbeloa, who was announced as the new Fulham head coach on Tuesday night, succeeding Marco Silva.

Fulham primarily want to strengthen at centre forward, on the wings and in midfield - and Arbeloa is believed to be keen to bring in more than just one Real youth graduate to Craven Cottage.

Fulhams Norway international midfielder Sander Berge is attracting interest - making Manchester Uniteds shortlist among others - as is left-back Antonee Robinson.
